London, UK — The first ‘Great EDIROL VJ Challenge’ recently took place at the London International Music Show with nine of Europe’s best VJs performing live in a bid to win nearly £2,000 worth of EDIROL gear. Winning the first ever EDIROL VJ Challenge is a dream come true for Christian Scullion from Belfast. Not only does he have the honour of being the first ever winner of a competition that has set the VJ world alight, he also walks away with two incredible prizes in the form of the new EDIROL V-8 mixer and the P-10 visual presenter (worth a combined £1899 RRP).

Nine VJs took part in the competition including entrants from the UK, Spain and Germany. All nine have VJ’d at respected clubs around the world and alongside many top DJs. Each performed live using their own gear plus an EDIROL set-up that included the prizes. They were judged on: entertainment, use of the P-10 and V-8, the way their visuals interacted with the music and the actual video content. After three days of intense battling VJ Christian S from Belfast took the title. He has previously VJ’d at The Miami Winter Music Conference and is the resident VJ for the Vibe Collective in Belfast.

“It’s really, really fantastic,” he says about winning the EDIROL VJ Challenge. “There was a lot of talent in the competition and a lot of VJs whose work I respect very much, so being the overall winner has been a real honour for me.”

“The prize gear will definitely change my sets now, giving me much more hardware to play with. During my second set at the competition I had some software issues and the P-10 really came to my rescue. So the EDIROL gear will give me much more hardware to play with, many more options and some back up as well.”

“I really enjoyed LIMS. It was a real rush getting up there to perform and intense because you knew you were being scrutinized but I liked that. It meant I could really engage with the audience and try to tell a story through the visuals and audio.”

Interviews with all of the VJ finalists will soon be on the EDIROL website.

EDIROL’s highlights at LIMS:

EDIROL Europe celebrated their first decade in business at the London International Music Show (LIMS) and the VJ competition was just one event at the show. Highlights included…
• 10th Anniversary party and boat trip
• The unveiling of some brand new gear, including the UA-25EX, a worthy successor to the industry standard UA-25.
• The finals of the EDIROL VJ Challenge.
• Important educational seminars for both schools and project studio owners.
• An incredible stand featuring all of the latest EDIROL hardware and Cakewalk software.

More about the EDIROL VJ Challenge prizes
The EDIROL V-8 is a new video mixer that looks set to dominate the market in the same way as EDIROL’s ubiquitous V-4 by offering seven inputs plus an RGB input for computers. This means that two computers can be connected at any one time, along with a host of other inputs, making the V-8 an all-in one solution for video mixing. The EDIROL P-10 is the latest visual performance product and solid-state recorder on SD card. It has a very intuitive operation, integrated design and easy triggering of video clips via the sampler-like interface and is the perfect solution to using it alongside the V-8 and a laptop on stage.
