NASHVILLE, Tenn. /Music Industry Newswire/ — Central South Distribution, Inc., which has been the number one independent faith based record distributor in the world for the past decade, has formed a partnership with Lataillade Entertainment, headed by contemporary gospel label/publishing/marketing guru Vicki Mack-Lataillade and her husband, Claude Lataillade, and Grammy nominated songwriter/producer Rene Moore, head of Ruff Town Entertainment Group. The multi-million dollar stock purchase marks the first time in history that African Americans will have a principal stake and partnership in a major contemporary music distribution company. Randy Davidson, founder and CEO of Central South, Inc., made the milestone announcement, which is effective immediately.

Vicki Mack-Lataillade, Claude Lataillade, and Rene Moore, will serve on Central South’s Board of Directors along with Davidson, Chuck Adams, co-founder and President of Central South, and Greg Davidson, the company’s Vice-President of Finance. Central South is a private and family owned business that has been based in Nashville, Tennessee, since 1970. On top of being the #1 independent faith based distributor, they rank #2 behind Sony/BMG/Provident/Integrity as the leading distributor of faith based music in the U.S. Over the past decade, Central South built a chain of 90 retail stores that grossed $100 million in volume.

They are credited with successfully crossing a product line comprised of 80 percent urban contemporary gospel and faith based music into major retail chains like Wal-Mart, Target, and Best Buy. The Lataillade’s built the most successful independent gospel label ever, Gospo Centric Records, (which launched superstar Kirk Franklin, among others), and along with several other companies generated over $100 million dollars. Vijay Chandran, President of the Cauvery Group, Inc., arranged the financing for the acquisition.

“The paradigm for the way contemporary music is sold on the retail level is in a constant state of flux and is extremely challenging at the moment,” noted Davidson. “The merger with Lataillade Entertainment and Ruff Town Entertainment Group is a natural progression for Central South, and the vast experience and expertise of our unparalleled management team will help us to expand our dominant market share.”

“This is really a dream come true opportunity,” remarked Vicki Mack-Lataillade. “Our relationship with Central South gives us a chance to be more than just aggregators of content. We’ll be able to fully utilize our creativity and marketing savvy,” and she added, “artists will be given to opportunity to sell music products, and music related products as well.”

“We share a common vision with Central South of maintaining our independent spirit, staying streamlined, and seeking viable partnerships with other companies that will help us grow a multi-media distribution platform for a wide range of faith based and secular products,” infused Claude Lataillade. “We also intend to take an aggressive posture in expanding and our digital strategy, and further developing our roles as creators/providers and distributors of digital content.”

“We’re in the very unique position of creating a label/distribution template that’s a first on every level,” stated Rene Moore. “I’m excited and thrilled to be part of a partnership and company that ultimately can become a haven and nurturing place for talented artists from all music genres.”

Since selling Gospo Centric to BMG/Sony/Zomba in 2005, Vicki, CEO, and Claude, CFO, have built a wide spectrum of entertainment properties under the banner of Lataillade Entertainment, which include Mack Entertainment, a record label, Lilly Mack Publishing, (gospel music’s #1 music publishing company) a couple of the television series/properties, “The Lilly Mack Sing-A-Long,” and “Soulaughable,” a comedy/variety show on The Word Network, and Muscapes, an entity that serves as a digital arm for all its products.

Rene Moore is most noted for his starring role in “Rene & Angela,” considered one of the most influential duets in the history of R&B and hip-hop music. In the late eighties, the duo scored a series of classic hits, including, “You Don’t Have To Cry,” “Your Smile,” and “Save Your Love,” which was a #1 hit. Moore also enjoyed a decade of writing and producing with the late Michael Jackson, and received a Grammy nomination for “Song Of The Year,” for “Jam” which he penned for Jackson. His thriving career as songwriter/producer also includes penning songs for Janet Jackson, and Jay Z, among others. In 1997, he launched Ruff Town Entertainment Group in 1997 with radio mogul Kevin Wagner and rapper JT Money. The company includes a burgeoning record label and a highly successful publishing company.

Central South’s offices will remain in Nashville. President Chuck Adams remarked, “Combining our track record with the vast talents of Vicki, Claude, and Rene gives us chance to rewrite yet another chapter in our company’s ongoing success story.”

NEW YORK, N.Y. /Music Industry Newswire/ — Certain exceptional musical matches are unquestionably made in Heaven. The day that ubiquitous keyboard journeyman, and PRA Records recording artist, Joe Sample arrived at the studio to lend his distinctive piano touch to singer extraordinaire Randy Crawford’s debut album “Everything Must Change” in 1976, one of the finest pairings in contemporary jazz was born. Off and on through the years, these soul mates have made sweet music together – from the now classic “Street Life,” which Randy sang with Joe’s group The Crusaders, to Randy’s own album “Now We May Begin,” for which Joe was a co-producer. These stellar guest appearances eventually led to the inevitable: a duo project as co-headliners.

March 24, 2009 will see the release of Joe Sample and Randy Crawford’s second album of collaborations titled “No Regrets.” It’s the much anticipated follow-up to their first such collection in 2006, Grammy(R) nominated “Feeling Good,” which peaked at #3 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart and paved the way for a successful string of tours around the world.

“No Regrets” promises to lean in more of a soulful direction, featuring both remakes of R&B classics such as Aretha Franklin’s “Today I Sing The Blues” and The Staple Singers’ “Respect Yourself,” plus other songs from across the eras done in a jazzy-soul style; such as the legendary Edith Piaf chestnut “No Regrets” to contemporary pop singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel.”

Sample states, “Randy and I wanted to keep this recording on more of the rhythm and blues side. And, as always, we wanted to pick songs that nobody else records.”

The result is a collection of music that sets and sustains a laid back late night groove – a time and space where the listener can do just that – relax and really listen to Joe and Randy’s custom made takes on everything from blues great Bobby Blue Bland’s “Lead Me On” to Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Randy Newman’s poignant “Just One Smile”; the latter of which significantly impressed Mr. Newman, who told his old friend Mr. LiPuma personally. Key to setting this mood is the returning rhythm section of world class veterans Steve Gadd on drums and Christian McBride on bass – ultra sensitive sidemen who provide the music with precisely what it requires and nothing more.

This fantastically laid foundation brings out the very best in Miss Randy Crawford for 11 soul-stirring performances. One London Times reviewer marveled at how after 30 plus years her voice still retains such “youth and power.” Sample proudly describes her succinctly as “an American treasure.”

Joe Sample and Randy Crawford’s No Regrets is a top shelf sample of masters at play.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The new song from country duo Scott Joss and Doug Colosio is “Darlin’,” a deeply-felt ballad that celebrates many aspects of love. Released by Golosio Publishing (golosio.com), “Darlin’” is quietly exciting in a very peaceful and intimate style. “If ever a song could be said to wear its heart on its sleeve, this is the one,” says John Scott G, a partner in Golosio Publishing. “The lyrics are very down-to-earth but they pack an emotional wallop. Best of all, there is a special feeling to the song that can only be called timeless.”

Emphasizing that timeless quality is the music video for “Darlin’” which features contemplative photographs from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. “The photos are of parents and grandparents of Golosio employees,” G states,” and this makes the video and the song a kind of love letter to our families.”

The video, produced by the FookMovie collective, is available on YouTube, Veoh, Blip, and the Joss/Colosio page on Beta Records: betarecords.com/scott.joss.and.doug.colosio .

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — When Scott G began to mix The G-Man’s new album, “Audio Takes a Stand” produced by Songs and Soundtracks, he was shocked to see that an unseen entity had completed it for him. “I started to assign levels to the separate tracks of bass, drums, keyboards and guitars — the process known as mixing — but it had already been done,” G states. “It’s my studio, my computers, and I’m the only one with the password, so the gear has a mind of its own or the spirit of the little boy on the cover of the album did the mixing for me.”

Not only were volume levels and sonic frequencies established for each song, the amount of each instrument in the left and right channels was also set. “The ghost created a nice stereo mix,” G says.

Each of the 12 songs on “Audio Takes a Stand” (www.audiotakesastand.com) is a multi-layered instrumental that uses a combination of rock, dance and ambient sounds to create subliminal reactions from listeners. Described as “sonic applications of hypnotic euphoria,” the album is the culmination of a 3-album journey that began with “Crazed + Dazed” and continued with “Burning Man Soundscapes.”

Songs range from the Pink Floyd-influenced “Angels Behind Your Eyes,” to the Zappaesque “Then Comes the Strange.”

There are videos for 4 of the album’s songs by the FookMovie production company: “Free Nude Photos,” “Beep Logic,” “Dreams on the March,” and “Go West on East Avenue.” To view the “Beep Logic” video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATjLu9Q8hwE

“Audio Takes a Stand” and other albums by The G-Man are available on iTunes.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Giving musicians and music lovers more power and flexibility than ever before, BETA Records (www.betarecords.com) has launched a newly expanded site combining search-and-match music selection, virtual commerce, and social interaction. Technology partners took part in a global 2-year effort to transform BETA Records into a music ecosystem to accommodate the way fans like to interact with music and artists.

“BETA Records is taking the ideas, philosophy and functionality of the record labels of yesteryear and adding modern technology,” states Chris Honetschlaeger, President. “Now, fans and bands are going to be able to interact in exciting ways, leading to more people sharing and recommending more new music than ever.”

The newly launched site offers quick-and-easy tools for artists and fans to communicate with each other while sharing, buying or selling music, ringtones, and merchandise. “We created a whole new world involving virtual branding, communication, music, and commerce,” says Georg van Handel, CEO.

Visitors to the online BETA world will find downloads, streaming, video, email, widgets, ringtone makers, dynamic song pricing, and intuitive search-and-match technology to help find new music.

“Other sites have made music accessible, but it’s not about how many ‘friends’ listen to you because friends don’t pay the bills,” notes Honetschlaeger. “What we’ve launched will take a song to 20 different markets, giving 85% of the revenue back to the artists. The more exposure a song has, the more likely it is that someone will buy it.” Even fans can earn revenue via recommendations and their own profile’s traffic.

The new music and social networking technology is now available in the USA. Next to launch will be England, www.betarecords.co.uk; Germany, www.betarecords.de; and Mexico, www.betarecords.com.mx, with China coming soon.

About BETA Records
BETA Records is a hybrid community that actively finds, produces, and showcases unsigned artists to the music industry and distributes content to fans via digital channels. BETA offers each artist a dedicated page to utilize the full range of the site’s technology.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Following up on the success of their debut album “Beat Hustlers,” Barcelona Spain’s production trio – known as Pachecos – return with “Fear Of A Green Planet,” an album that pays tribute to the classic Public Enemy album (Fear Of A Black Planet), while also promoting the legalization of their favorite herb. The project offers listeners a one-way ticket to the green planet, stopping in New York (Kool Keith, Lil’ Dap, Apani, Silk Hash Mills, Thrillz), New Jersey (Lady Luck), Montreal (Bones Malone), Detroit (Frank N Dank), Virginia (Lil’ Roc), Los Angeles (Jacky Jasper, Jack Herer), Las Vegas (Nick Hawkins), Madrid (Chirie Vegas) and Barcelona (Kunta-K, Flavio Rodríguez).

The album will be available digitally June 1 on iTunes, Rhapsody, MP3.COM and all other digital services; and the CD (with bonus tracks unavailable digitally) will hit U.S. retail stores September 6 on Latin Thug Records, distributed in the USA and Canada by Koch Entertainment Distribution.

“It’s a tribute to Public Enemy and to our favourite plant,” assures band member Danny Brasco.

“Yes it’s true, with this record we want to change the world,” says band member Professor Angel Dust, smiling amidst a cloud of toxic smoke.

“We’ve played the majority of instruments in this album and we’ve done really what came out in the studio, adding many more layers of percussion, Hammond keys, bass and guitar than we did in the first álbum,” says band member DJ Caesar.

The first single is “PIÑA COLADA” featuring KOOL KEITH, impacting U.S. urban radio now, after blazing up radio across Europe, topping play lists in Spain, Germany, France and more.

“Pina Colada is the big summer hit in Europe. It’s bumping in every club and you heard it at every party at the Cannes Film Festival. Now its coming the USA,” says Latin Thug Records President, Fred Sherman.

Latin Thug Records was founded by hip hop icon Sen Dog of Cypress Hill and has released albums from B Real and Sen Dog of Cypress Hill, Mellow Man Ace and super producer Fredwreck. The label will release “Fredwreck Greatest Hits Episode 2” in July.

MIAMI, Fla. — With the music industry desperately needing a new business model, and the gap between the major and indie labels getting smaller and smaller, a new breed of indie is making waves in a big way: Heavy Air Music, Inc. With such heavy hitters as Pharell Williams, Scott Storch, Tom Lord-Alge, Missy Elliot, Lenny Kravitz, Emilio Estefan, and major companies such as Sony Music, Peer Music, Universal Music, Clear Channel, and Live Nation, Miami is quickly becoming a music industry hub – Heavy Air Music (H.A.M.) is right in the middle.

H.A.M. started in 2002 as a small production studio. Since then, it has grown into a multi-faceted entertainment company that includes production, mixing, web design, promotions, artist development, distribution, songwriting and film scoring.

With an arsenal of talent and a fresh new take on the relationship between fans and artists, this new independent plans to take the industry by storm.

“I wanted to create artists and records that listeners could relate to,” Javier Carrion, H.A.M.’s founder, explains. “I wanted to create a transparent product for the audience so they could feel a real connection at every angle.”

Javier, also a Grammy(R)-award winning mixing engineer, focuses on keeping all aspects of production in house.

“We do very little outsourcing to keep quality consistent,” he says. “We have a very talented staff.”

H.A.M. has contributed to many Grammy-winning and nominated albums. Past clients include: Barbara Streisand, Brian McKnight, Gladys Knight, Barry Gibb, and more.

Most recently, H.A.M. signed new artist, Stephanie Tiangco, who just completed her first release, “Hard Times EP,” with the new single, “I Think You Ain’t.”

Tiangco has an edge that few mainstream pop stars possess. Singer, songwriter, producer; her work has an imaginative spirit that is captured in every song. The EP is currently available on iTunes(TM); the video will be available late summer. According to H.A.M., Tiangco will be the flagship artist for H.A.M.

The company has also recently signed on with Mystic Urchin and the nation’s largest independent distributor, Ryko Distribution. Tiangco was the first artist to be released under this new partnership.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Underground Mexican hip-hop artist/entrepreneur, SOLOW13, breaks the music game wide open by establishing his own label, TRUTH LOVES LA WFAMILIA, LLC or simply LAWFAMILIA, LLC. The new imprint is a collaborative partnership between SOLOW13 and famed West Coast label, Latin Thug Records – best known for being founded by Cypress Hill’s Sen Dog and home to the Reyes Brothers, B Real’s “Gunslinger” albums and many other notable releases.

“Solow brings a lot to the table. He’s an amazing artist and a highly competent business executive. As soon as we heard his music and met him, we knew we had to be in business with him. We are very excited to partner with him and we’re here to do whatever we can to help make the world aware of his talent and his message and to help him take LAWFAMILIA to the next level,” says Fred Sherman, President of Latin Thug Records. SOLOW13′s highly anticipated debut album, Warrior13, will be the first release from the imprint and will be in-stores on March 25, 2008.

LAWFAMILIA, LLC will be responsible for producing its own creative material, while Latin Thug Records will direct manufacturing, distribution, marketing and other duties. The aim of the LAWFAMILIA, LLC is not only to be a home for talented artists, but also a launch pad for innovative projects and ventures.

THE ALBUM
Warrior13 takes a truly original approach by being totally clean without compromising its edge. The first single, “Whistle While U Work,” features the West Coast legend, B Real from Cypress Hill. The track serves a dual purpose: an anthem for SOLOW13′s domination with an infectious hook and a descriptive insight into his struggle as an artist and an ambitious businessman. Other Cali heavyweights are present on Warrior13, including Latin hip-hop pioneer, Mellow Man Ace on the second single, “Dickies and the Polo.” This joint is destined to bang in the clubs as well as on the streets. Legendary mastering engineer Brian “Big Bass” Gardner (Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop, Linkin Park, Madonna) elevates the album to a whole new level by adding the finishing touches to this classic.

THE HISTORY
The founding of LAWFAMILIA, LLC was not an easy accomplishment by any means. The label is a culmination of the blood, sweat and tears stemming from SOLOW13′s life experiences. Born in Jalisco, Mexico, SOLOW13′s life hit a crossroad when his father, in a drunken rage, shot and killed his mother, wounded his aunt and attempted to shoot him and his siblings. Like something from a movie, the family, led by SOLOW13′s 16-year-old brother, began their journey for a better life in America. The journey took them by foot, by train and by water, and finally hiding under the floorboards of a truck.

The desire for a whole new world of possibilities fed his desire to continue in his struggle. Once in the US, SOLOW13 experienced a rebirth as his natural talents began to show, both academically and as a hustler on the street. His relentless pursuit of the American dream turned friends into enemies, placed him in dangerous situations and left him broke and homeless more than once. SOLOW13 stood out from the crowd early as he developed at an astonishing pace. He excelled academically and made a name for himself on the streets.

Through hustling and showing his clout, SOLOW13 successfully forged solid business partnerships, which led to earning the capital needed to upstart his own label, maintain artistic control and serve as a champion for capitalizing on artistic and business-related ventures. Eventually, SOLOW13 would experience a profound spiritual metamorphosis after extensive study of religious philosophy. This enlightenment allowed him to gain knowledge of self through faith. Now armed with a strong connection to a higher power, SOLOW13 is ready to take his game to the next level using his own blueprint for success. To this day, SOLOW13 continues to study the Bible and Hebrew law.

Stay tuned for more exciting SOLOW13 updates coming soon.

Combining Online and Brick-and-Mortar Operations, BETA Defies the Trend of Industry Cutbacks

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Rebelling against the current downturn for traditional record companies, Chris Honetschlaeger, President of BETA Records (www.betarecords.com), has announced a new generation of record deal which partners the company with the artist in a non-exclusive three song contract and plans to sign 100 artists in 2008.

BETA will analyze and utilize listening behavior across its own fast-growing community database of 75,000 unsigned artists to find, sign, and develop the best 100+ acts over multiple genres throughout the year. BETA has already signed 5 acts with another 12 pending in genres ranging from metal to pop.

NEW DEAL
The BETA deal incorporates a multitude of distribution channels available online including featured placement of the artist within the newest version of the BETA Records website slated for release in Feb 2008. “Plugging into the new BETA is like accessing over 100 distribution channels simultaneously,” says Georg van Handel, BETA Records CEO. “Alongside selling songs and ringtones, BETA will unveil two innovative online revenue features to monetize the artist. BETA has solved the industry wide riddle in its upcoming website release to generate revenue from the passionate and engaged fan who already owns the music via purchase or piracy.”

NON-EXCLUSIVITY
Contracts with BETA “allow the artist to keep all physical CD sales, tour and concert revenue, and merchandise,” notes Honetschlaeger. “BETA’s position takes a 50/50 stake in the copyright, digital song sales and online advertising of the artist’s music. All of this comes packaged in a concise 8-page contract, blessed by some of the best music attorneys in Hollywood. And since our deal is non-exclusive, BETA allows and encourages artists to find other deals to help with their career growth. I am convinced that we will discover the next generation of superstars faster and more efficiently than Universal, Sony, Warner, and EMI combined,” Honetschlaeger adds.

In working with each of the 100 artists signed to the company, BETA will utilize its new multimedia facilities in Hollywood to record both the audio and respective video of each song in a high energy 3-day 3-song production schedule. With 18 streaming cameras and microphones in the studio, not a moment is lost in the “making of” each song and video.

FUTURE PLANS
BETA plans on hosting a private unveiling dinner of the new site to a group of 50 press, bloggers, forum leaders, and music industry tastemakers in the first week of February. Those interested should contact scottg@betarecords(.com).
